Chief of Staff
Why this is a great job
Rarely do you get to take on a role this broad in a really well-respected VC firm. This looks like a great opportunity to build your network, get exposed to some of the top investors and founders, and gain valuable skills.
The nitty gritty
Red Sea Ventures is a NYbased early stage venture capital firm that invests in techenabled startups building nextgeneration experiences for consumers and workers.
Our current portfolio includes several categorydefining companies such as Sweetgreen, AllBirds, Convoy, Skysafe, Outdoor Voices, and Universal Standard among others.
We are intent on doubling down on our efforts to support our portfolio companies. As former founders and operators and now as investors, we love to work for the companies we’ve partnered with to help accelerate their path to success in every way possible. Specifically, we want to build out our portfolio support program, increase brand awareness both for Red Sea Ventures and for our portfolio companies, and further galvanize the NY tech community by delivering value to this inspiring ecosystem.
Position description:
We are searching for a fulltime Head of Platform & Operations / Chief of Staff to support our ambitious goals. This is an incredible opportunity for someone gifted with an entrepreneurial spirit to be involved in the growth of a venture fund and to interact with our partnership, entrepreneurs, and the earlystage startup ecosystem in New York and beyond.
In this role, you will have 3 key areas of responsibilities:
Portfolio Support
Marketing, Communications, and Brand Awareness
Firm Operations
This is NOT an investment position and as such you will not be working on new investment opportunities as this is a crucial position requiring full attention to succeed; however, given the collaborative and boutique nature of the firm, you will be exposed to all facets of venture capital as a critical team member, participating in in our weekly team meetings where we review new deals and existing portfolio companies.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, multi-talented player, that is detail oriented, process minded and action driven, eager to innovate strategically and tactically, can adapt, learn new things quickly, and determine the most efficient solution to meaningful challenges for our firm and our entrepreneurs, and is a strong writer. At Red Sea Ventures, we value ambition, hustle, self-motivation, independence, creativity, positivity, results, and humility – and are looking for likeminded candidates.
Responsibilities:
Portfolio support
Solve critical challenges for our founders. Work closely with our portfolio companies to best understand their needs, create valuable solutions, and engage and support them by delivering these solutions in innovative ways
Build and maintain one of the best networks in New York. Build and manage the Red Sea Ventures Expert Network by leveraging our investors and advisors, as well as engaging with the larger tech and startup ecosystem to create new networks and strategic relationships for our portfolio founders
RSV Marketing and Communication
Communicate our message to the world. Manage all RSV external communication (social media, monthly community newsletter, LP newsletter...)
Develop and share our insights. Assist in development of Red Sea Ventures content for distribution to broader community on recurring basis
Create an environment that consistently brings great people together. Strategize on, plan and produce RSV events with entrepreneurs, highlevel technology executives, and the greater NY venture community (dinners, Table Talk, RSV Founder events, GP events, LP events, conferences)
Increase Red Sea’s presence at key ecosystem events across the country. Plan team’s involvement at broader tech and industry events in NY and across the country
Operations
Work directly with and provide leverage for our Partners. Support the partnership in their day-to-day operational activities (Finance, Admin, Monday meeting preparation, benchmarking, etc.)
Execute on special projects. Project manage other internal initiatives that come through the partnership — ad hoc portfolio requests, etc.
Required skills and experience:
Natural relationship-builder with strong communication and interpersonal skills and a proven ability to foster communication and cooperation among diverse individuals online and offline
Self-motivated with dedicated work ethic and entrepreneurial attitude, thriving in fast-moving work environments: you are independent, proactive, and feel comfortable executing with little direction
Exceptionally high attention to detail
Strong writing skills
2–4 years of experience in and around startups, especially in a marketing, communications, PR, operations, or business development role
Bonus points if you:
Are an active contributor to the NY venture community with extensive network across technology startups
Have effective writing skills, including editorial experience (personal or professional
content)
Compensation commensurate with experience.
