About Mentor Collective
Mentor Collective is the leading provider of mentoring programs. We partner with universities to design, manage, and assess programs that give all students access to a relevant near-peer mentor.
Vision for this role
The shadow of our co-founder, and COO - top performer will have opportunity to build out multiple divisions of the company, hiring multiple direct reports over the next 2-3 years
Top performer will be on a track leading to become a VP, and potentially CPO/Head of People long-term
The person in this role will join our existing Chief of Staff who leads external projects that fall in this category.

Success is often measured by your ability to create leverage for key executives in the business.
It is NOT our expectation that you have done all of the following responsibilities before. This is a generalist role which will touch all areas of the business, and is ideal for someone excited to learn all the goods AND bads of running a startup. On a small team, there are thousands of one-off things that come up which could distract other team members -- this role owns all of those things. They include, but are not limited to the below categories.
Responsibilities within "Operations" include:
Own payroll, commission, reimbursements, onboarding paperwork, related HR admin etc
Accounts receivables/payables, budgets, reimbursements, procurement, interfacing with our vendors and outsourced accountants
Own the financial model and be the financial expert on our product and economics
Office logistics. Where do new desks go when we hire new team members?
Articulate our financial story for internal and external stakeholders
Build financial analyses and make strategic recommendations to influence our business model and roadmap
Budget creation, financial reporting, and preparation of GAAP financial statements
Legal - Contracts, privacy, and insurance, interfacing with our outsourced lawyers
Administer benefits. Interface with benefits broker regularly on benefit-related issues; help lead annual open enrollment
Preside over existing policies and guidelines; create and update guidelines as needed
Assist in ensuring that we are compliant with local, state, federal laws
Support investor relations, fund-raising, and banking relations
Ad hoc financial analysis and strategic insight as needed
Responsibilities within "Hiring" include
Standardize hiring practices to ensure we are always finding the best possible people for each role
Own our community newsletter, hiring-related social media and press
Leading recruitment coordination, sourcing, logistics, and screener calls
Plan and execute external hiring events
Manage relationships with vendors, recruiters, and our contractors who sometimes help with sourcing
Responsibilities within "Culture" include:
Coordinate with the leadership team to create effective onboarding and professional development programs
Own our monthly employee survey and provide recommendations for increasing employee engagement and satisfaction
Ensure each employee has a professional development plan
Act as first-line employee support
Administer benefits. Interface with benefits broker regularly on benefit-related issues; help lead annual open enrollment
Preside over existing policies and guidelines; create and update guidelines as needed
Assist in ensuring that we are compliant with local, state, federal laws
Identify areas for improvement and innovation across People Ops; develop and implement plans to address those areas
Plan and execute internal company events
Additional potential special projects (pending your interest/experience)
Press - Helping us receive coverage in local and national press
Research - Helping us do market research or academic research, pending needs
Process standardization - helping us create a repeatable business process.
About You
Bonus points - 2+ years in a high performance environment (TFA, Big 4 firm, Management Consulting, Peace Corps, etc.)
Excellent interpersonal communication skills, detail-oriented, and organized
Data-driven and curious problem-solver
Highly self-motivated, flexible, and interested in a dynamic work environment
