Curator
Why this is a great job
Cardea’s solving a problem that we’re all familiar with - how to find the best jobs. Here at onejob, we’ve been fans of Cardea for a long time and think they’re on to something big. In this role, you’ll get to play the role of a Spotify playlist curator (just for jobs), which tbh sounds like a lot of fun, while working with a very strong team with great initial traction and funding.
The nitty gritty
Company website: www.cardea.work
Location: NY preferred, but not an absolute necessity
About us:
Cardea is a job finding platform that's taking a curated, discovery centric approach to finding work. Instead of bunching up our jobs into one giant database and letting users sift through the noise with nothing but a search bar, we're a platform of curated Spotify-style "playlists" of companies and jobs. These can be anything from "early stage startups with top tier investors" to "last minute internships for procrastinating students". Job-seekers can follow the lists they're interested in and keep track of all the jobs posted to these lists.
We've recently finished building our MVP, and have since organically grown our waitlist to more than 4,000 people. We've just raised a funding round from a host of founders, executives, and investors from companies including Stripe, Mixpanel, Webflow, Docusign, and the Accel scout fund.
Role overview:
We're looking for a full-time curator to join our content team. This position is a hybrid between a market research, copywriting, and media role, so the responsibilities are multifaceted. Broadly speaking, you'll come up with ideas of cool "playlists" of companies, curate the list, research the companies and write about your work (details to follow below).
Why you should join:
We're taking on a massive industry with a new approach. The challenge is monumental, but in a space that hasn't seen innovation in a long time— we think our fresh take is bound to make some noise.
Be an early employee at a high potential startup. ****As one of our first employees, you'll have profound impact within the company. You'll be directly responsible for the team's successes, and will reap the benefits that come along with it.
Work on a product that will improve lives. We want to deliver opportunities to job-seekers that fulfill them on a basis beyond compensation. Young professionals, more than ever, want to work at companies that they believe in— and we want to be the platform that helps them do that.
You'll join a close-knit team of smart, talented, and motivated individuals. We're a team of recent graduates from Stanford and Oxford, and, while we're young, we have past experience on high impact teams at Peloton, SpaceX and Galaxy Interactive.
You'll get a chance to build your personal brand. All the lists you curate will be credited to you on the site, and we'll make sure to feature you as an individual, not just a part of the company.
Why you shouldn't:
We're small, so if you'd prefer working in a more structured and established environment, we're probably not the right fit for you. Life here is fast paced, which we know is not for everyone.
There is still lots to figure out. While we're extremely excited about what we've got on our hands, we won't pretend like we have all of the answers. Problems will arise, and sometimes you'll be asked to help solve those problems.
What you'll do:
Curate lists of awesome companies:
Content is at the core of our product, and the "playlists" we curate can center around almost any space. To that effect, our curators have the freedom to research and create content around the industries and niches they're passionate about. Do you want to do a deep dive and figure out which early stage startups have the most potential to bring about social good? You got it. Curious to see which design agencies are best at converting their early employees to future in-house product roles? Go for it. You'll be responsible for producing a large chunk of the content that drives our product.
Write about those lists:
Once you've curated a list, the next step is creating content around the list. Generally, this looks like a slightly long form piece on the space, some resources for further reading, and a breakdown of the key themes, figures, and theses within the space.
Stay up to date on new trends:
Staying in touch and relevant with what is happening in the various spaces you cover is important to the maintenance and development of the content on the platform.
Talk to users:
Strong curation necessitates an understanding of the job-seeker's perspective. The content team leads most of our user research efforts, and are continuously working to figure out what's sticking and what's not.
Lots more:
We're early stage enough that everyone on the team is asked to be cross functional. Most likely, this will mean occasionally taking on some community, marketing or design responsibilities.
We're looking for someone who is:
Enthusiastic about our product: We want people who can really see how our product would work for them and can bring that enthusiasm to their work and ideas.
A good critic: While we want you to be excited about what we do, we're also looking for people who can bring a different perspective to the team.
A strong writer: Whether in a previous role or independently, we'd like to see a proven ability to communicate complex business ideas in digestible language.
An expert generalist: Ideally, you should be comfortable writing about a whole host of spaces. That being said, displaying some domain expertise in a few areas is important too. You'll be the complete owner of our content in those areas, but will be expected to help out and support across the board.
Able to produce at pace: While we don't sacrifice the quality of our work, creating content quickly and at volume is a priority.
Bonus points:
Have an existing audience: Ideally, you'll have spent some time creating content already and have built a following (Twitter, substack, medium—anything works!).
