Burrow
Chief of Staff
Why this is a great job
Lots of responsibility on a small team is the ideal recipe for career acceleration.
The nitty gritty
About us
At Burrow, we make luxury couches for real life. Engineered to save on shipping time and cost, Burrow couches ship directly to customers from the factory in just 1 week. Our couches are hand-crafted in the U.S.A. with sustainably sourced, high-quality materials that are free of harmful chemicals. How revolutionary is this? Fast Company just named us one of the most innovative retail companies in the world. We started with the couch and will quickly expand into the entire home, maximizing convenience, quality, and comfort with every piece of the home that we offer.
Background
Burrow is looking for a Chief of Staff to our CEO, Stephen Kuhl, helping to execute strategic priorities and drive results across the entire company. The projects that the Chief of Staff will own will be forward-looking and often experimental, but they will help shape the future of the company. This will be a very demanding but highly rewarding role for a hyper-organized, exceptionally strategic thinker who wants to learn from the top how a high-growth start-up is run.
Day-to-day responsibilities
Manage strategic projects and ensure timelines are being met as prioritized by our CEO, including acting as a liaison between different teams
Help lead and manage effective team meetings, including: defining agenda, facilitating meetings as needed, capturing key takeaways and follow-ups, and executing on follow-ups with all necessary stakeholders
Prepare materials including but not limited to team meetings, project proposals, business cases (models and presentations), and prep work for leadership meetings (including board meetings)
Dig into specific business issues as they arise and, in partnership with our CEO, diagnose solutions in partnership
Act as a voice for our CEO and communicate his vision, when needed, on strategic decisions
You in a nutshell
4-6 years years of strong problem-solving experience in venture capital, private equity, management consulting, or in a strategic operating role at a startup
Excellent project management skills and a highly-structured, process-oriented mindset
Someone who sweats the small details and is 10/10 in organization
Highly quantitative (comfortable making financial models in Excel) and experienced in building well-designed presentations
Able to see the forest through the trees, and approach new opportunities and challenges with a long-term, ROI driven perspective
Strong desire to challenge and improve the status quo, leaving the world in a better place than we found it
A very effective communicator and someone people are excited to work with
Demonstrate the core values of Burrow: passion, innovation, collaboration and community
Our purpose
We all live busy lives. We maintain motion from one thing to the next. Long trips and late nights at the office. This party, that party, carpools, conferences, bucket lists, big plans, and all the things that test our patience in between. These experiences, both frantic and fantastic, define who we are. They push our lives forward. But with all this movement there is a special feeling we get when we stick our key in our front door, turn the knob, and step inside, entering into the place where we feel most comfortable. At Burrow, we strive every day towards giving everyone the chance to feel finally home.
Our people
When our founders started Burrow, they were as intentional about the company culture they wanted to create as they were about the products they wanted to build. We have taken great strides to define our values as a team and aspire to live by them every day. When you sit down with anyone at Burrow, you instantly feel something unique.
Building a community
At Burrow, we’re passionate about creating a workplace where everyone is committed to growth - for us as individuals, the communities we are a part of and the future of the company.
