The Role Defined:
FINDMINE is seeking a Chief of Staff to act as a force multiplier for the CEO and play a critical role supporting her work to grow the company, craft and execute on strategy and accomplish the company’s mission of improving experiences for both consumers and retailers.
Qualifications
To qualify for this role, you must have an MBA plus at least 1 year in an operating role at a startup AND at least 2 years in management consulting/VC/startup law role. In the absence of an MBA, you must have at least 5 years in management consulting/VC/startup law AND at least 3 years across various operating roles at a startup
Stellar communication skills (verbal, written, visual) and gravitas. You should be eloquent but concise, and equally skilled delivering an executive summary to a roomful of skeptical c-suite executives as well as communicating a detailed set of financial inputs to an outsourced CFO.
Tech-savvy with common office software in a startup environment. Be able to set up and optimize solutions like Slack, Trello, GSuite, etc. and be 100% fluent and efficient with Excel, Keynote, and Powerpoint. Photoshop a plus.
Highly strategic and also capable of performing deep research and analysis. You must be able to see the forest for the trees, but still do incredibly thorough analysis backed up with data. A natural proclivity to be quantitative is a must.
Unparalleled attention to detail. You move fast and don’t slave over your to-do list, opting instead to prioritize the most important work, but you never make careless errors, and you learn from your failures, never making the same mistake twice.
Great at partnering and forming meaningful, effective relationships with peers and subordinates as well as managing up effectively. You are a great sounding board, and everyone in the company should see you as an ally, even when you’re executing a highly unpopular strategy that will inevitably ruffle many feathers.
Incredibly trustworthy and discreet. You’ll be handling highly sensitive and confidential info and must be able to keep a game face at all times.
90th percentile in self-awareness and EQ, and extremely unflappable. Be prepared to share examples of these qualities in the interview process.
Responsibilities
Remove friction from the CEO’s (and leadership team’s to some degree) process of making critical decisions and implementing strategy to achieve the company’s goals and vision. This might mean creating Keynote slides, financial modeling, counseling team members, ghost writing emails, writing speeches, setting meeting agendas, planning offsites, coordinating with investors, board members, and advisors, preparing the board meeting deck and supporting materials, preparing for client meetings, managing travel, etc. Basically being really smart, strategic, tactical and willing to do what it takes to get to the goal with very little hand holding.
Manage, update, and oversee a company-wide dashboard of key metrics, including financial, product health, and sales, coordinating with various team members and consultants to get the relevant data and make it actionable.
Oversee scheduling of the CEO’s time. Ensure that tasks on the CEO’s calendar are optimized to move the company forward. Block and tackle so that those tasks which are not mission critical or must be done by only the CEO herself are reprioritized, delegated appropriately, or executed by you directly.
Manage executive assistant and office manager directly, and partner with external resources such as accountant, bookkeeper, etc. Coordinate with part-time people ops team member to execute aggressive hiring plan and manage culture-building. Partner with other team members to execute critical projects as needed.
Company offerings
Competitive salary and equity
Insider experience in a successful and high-growth startup (particularly relevant if you want to start your own company someday or work in VC)
Strong career progression potential (management track within operations, strategy, or a specific line of business)
Flexible office culture – work from whenever and wherever suits you as long as you deliver on your commitments to others.
