THE ROLE
We're looking for a Financial and Business Operations Associate to join our growing team, which serves as the strategic thought partner and financial planning function for Flatiron School. This function is central and integral to driving financial discipline, capital efficiency and business optimization. As a Financial and Business Operations Associate, you will play an important role in organizational planning, through the medium of financial analysis and forecasting. You will work closely with the Director of Finance to measure and track KPIs and financial metrics that support strategic decision-making.
You are somebody who loves financial analysis, you are analytical, motivated, resourceful and eager to dive into the data. To succeed in this role, you must have strong financial modeling, problem solving, analytical and process/project management skills. You have passion for education and technology and are excited about thriving in a startup environment, which is fast-paced, often involves wearing multiple hats, balancing multiple projects, partnering with various operating groups and all the related challenges and opportunities that come along with that.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning: Forecasting and Budgeting
Work with the Director of Finance in the development of the annual operating plan, budgeting and quarterly forecasting
Maintain and own operating and financial models
Understand operational levers that impact the financial well-being of the business
Strategy: Serve as a trusted, strategic finance partner to the Director of Finance in the areas of capital spend and ROI, operational efficiency, revenue growth and profitability
Reporting: Financials and KPIs
Provide visibility, governance and timely reporting of financials and key performance metrics
Prepare weekly and monthly executive reports including progress on key priorities and metrics
Ensure tracking, refinement and reporting of key financial metrics to leadership team
Help drive KPI and financial accountability and visibility throughout the organization
Create, manage and automate operational reports and dashboards to monitor the financial performance of the company
Meet regularly with managers to ensure agency over department and local campus spend is in line with budgets.
Scaling: Finance Organization and Infrastructure
Serve as a contributor in the design and construction of a highly scalable, end-to-end financial organization – teams, processes and systems
Play key role in design, build, maintain and evolve key financial models (revenue, opex, capex)
Identify and lead initiatives to continuously improve, automate, and scale forecasting and reporting tools, processes, and methodologies
Regulatory and Compliance: Work with legal and compliance team to ensure financial requests and obligations to state regulatory bodies are fulfilled.
REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
BA/BS degree in Finance, Economics, Business or other quantitative focus
3+ years of experience in FP&A and/or finance analyst equivalent functions, 2+ years of experience in analytically-driven roles (Investment Banking, Consulting, Analytics, etc.) a big plus
Skilled and highly proficient in financial modeling, Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
Experience in financial reporting and budgeting
Experience in fast paced, start-up environments with ability to work comfortably under pressure, with frequently changing landscape and tight deadlines, combining creativity, problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude
Highly motivated and willing to take on multiple responsibilities at once
Experience defining analytical/research projects, analyzing data and generating practical insights and decision-making recommendations
Independently capable of seeking information, solving conceptual problems, corralling resources, and delivering results in challenging situations
Innovative problem solver: Possessing strong interpersonal, multi-tasking, organizational, and project planning skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to deal with complex problems and present recommendations and findings in a clear, concise format.
