About the right team member
You are an empathic leader that brings together a strategic mindset, strong communication instincts, project management skills, and the ability to confidently advise senior leaders. You provide structure to the unstructured situations, knowing when to push the team towards conflict and when to stand back and listen. Reporting directly to our Founder and CEO, you will shape his message, provide focus, and deepen engagement to align Management and the broader team so that we can do the best work of our lives.
At Betterment you will get to
Shepherd cross-functional projects, keeping decision makers and stakeholders in the stream of information as progress is made quickly; support Management in the execution of initiatives, without creating dependencies within the team
Sift through the constant stream of ideas and priorities to form key messages, creating focus and alignment. Understand how to communicate messages throughout the organization.
Provide honest feedback and coaching to the CEO about his style and approach, highlighting the perceived and real impacts. Work to amplify strengths and complement blind spots. Be a confidant on management issues. Be empathetic and provide coaching to help resolve conflicts before they arise.
Be a thought partner on the company vision, priorities, challenges, and team. Have a 360-degree view of the organization and tight-knit relationships to be able to provide context and perspective on organizational problems. Be able to make and monitor organizational change.
Build relationships across the organization at all levels. Be an organizational listening and support device through formal and informal channels
Be a sounding board for the CEO and Management team, providing support towards our annual business planning process, strategic initiatives, and corporate development efforts
Extend CEO’s external reach, identifying key messages and target audiences. Actively maintain relationships, including taking meetings on his behalf
Coordinate and evaluate how Management should spend their time together, including running the weekly Management agenda, quarterly offsites, and social gatherings
Maintain and improve our company-wide, leadership, and departmental communication systems, including Team Meeting, Show & Tell, Operating Reviews, etc.
You will be effective if you have
8+ years of relevant experience, including working directly with a CEO or C-Suite executive
Extraordinary EQ and mentoring skills
Impeccable communication skills (both written and verbal) with a focus on efficiency and clarity
Ability to give and receive feedback and consistently work to achieve better results
Relationship-builder who can influence and direct others, often without direct reporting authority
Desire to succeed in a demanding, innovative, and entrepreneurial environment
Self-starter with a track record of seamless execution of complex projects with minimal guidance
Analytically minded and efficiency-minded
Highly organized with an ability to be flexible
Trustworthy with the ability to maintain confidentiality
