We’re gonna try something new today - something that will make your friends love you, your enemies hate you, and get you one step closer to that perfect job.
(drumroll)
It’s a referral program.
Okay, okay, I know, that doesn’t necessarily sound like the greatest thing ever, but bear with me. Here’s how it works:
Send your smartest, most successful friends this link: onejob.substack.com. If they sign up, you get one point. Email me a list of the people that you get to sign up (I’ll verify them) and you’ll get the following bonuses. Plus, when your friends get new jobs, they’ll owe you.
Bonuses
2 points (2 people signed up): A copy of my private guide on how to get a chief of staff job. I’ve helped a bunch of people get interviews and get hired in this role and this guide has actionable tips on what you can do to stand out.
5 points: I’ll review your resume and give you feedback. (plus the previous bonus)
10 points: I’ll do a 20-minute interview prep call with you. (plus the previous bonuses)

Moved
Chief of Staff
Why this is a great job
One of my first jobs was working at a moving company - I saw firsthand all the ways that the industry could improve. While the company has been around for a few years, it looks like it’s accelerating and this seems like a great generalist role.
The nitty gritty
Moved provides everything you need to get a move done, removing all the hassle and stress from moving. We're creating the consumer brand for moving and are backed by top VCs and angels.
As we expand to own the U.S. moving market, it's critical we make the moving process as simple and easy as possible. We’re fortunate to have built something people need and love, solving a real problem. Now it’s on us to bring Moved to everyone moving and we have a TON ahead of us across the entire business - ops, partnerships, product, everything. This is an exciting and great spot to be in but we need help filling gaps across initiatives and teams. That's where you come in.
We are looking for a high-output generalist. Someone who can get their hands dirty with the nitty gritty as well as think strategically. Someone who can be our interim head of people ops one minute, the next pinch hit to sign up new moving partners for a market launch, and then seamlessly jump to bookkeeping & projection models.
This is for someone who’s passionate about startups and gaining exposure across all areas of a business. This is for someone who writes and communicates well, and can manage multiple projects at a time. You’ll work your ass off - there will be long hours and big projects. At the same time, you’ll have fun, gain incredible experience, and learn constantly. You’ll get deep in the weeds while also owning high-impact initiatives. You’ll have lots of autonomy and work directly with the Executive team (mostly CEO & COO). If you get excited about reshaping a massive industry and learning everything you want to know about running a high-growth startup, come chat with us.
Responsibilities:
Work with exec team to support fundraising, team meetings, goal setting/tracking, creating dashboards
People ops - help recruit & hire top talent, run performance review process, plan team events, evaluate team benefits, etc.
Special projects - help launch a new line of business, figure out how to structure growing internal teams, etc.
General biz ops - review legal contracts, optimize business insurance policies, set up/manage vendors & tools (e.g. Zoom, new CRM, etc.)
Data/finance/accounting - handle monthly reconciliation, invoicing partners, forecasting demand, budgeting, etc.
Helping across the business - sign up new supply & demand partners, run point on a VIP move, spec out a new product feature, etc.
And much more!
Required Skills and Qualifications:
2+ years of experience with operations or strategy at a consumer facing startup (marketplace startup is a plus) or top consulting or venture capital firm.
A hustler, a go-getter, and a hard-worker. You don't stop until it's done.
A track record of running successful projects/initiatives from start to finish.
Team player and ability to work cross-functionally to drive success. You have excellent verbal and written communication. You jump in to lend a hand and you have no issue asking for help.
You welcome scary, new challenges. Roll up your sleeves and dive in to figure it out.
Resourceful and persistent. You won’t stop until the job is done.
Extremely organized, with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
Highly analytical, great with data and creative problem solver.
High energy, positive attitude and sense of humor. We accomplish a lot - and have fun while we’re doing it.
