It's only a backwards moon
In a similar vein to FTT jobs, the fintech career newsletter that we launched a few weeks ago, we’re gearing up to launch onejob health - a weekly career newsletter focused on the healthtech sector. Each edition will have an interview with a founder, exec, or investor in healthtech, a great open role at a healthtech company, and links to the most interesting industry news from the past week.
onejob health is $5 per month, or free if you subscribe to onejob premium. If you’re keeping track, that means that with a onejob premium subscription you’ll get onejob premium ($12+ value), FTT jobs ($5 value), and onejob health ($5 value).

5 Qs with a Health Tech Exec: Christopher Lento
An interview with Christopher Lento, Head of Healthcare Strategic Partnerships at Noom
How'd you get into the digital health industry?
After working in both pharma/biotech and healthcare technology (EMR), I started to become aware of the concept of digital heath. I lost my brother in law to a drug overdose in 2010 and was watching the US opioid crisis develop. I started following some emerging companies in digital heath and became aware of an innovative start up digital health group located in Boston. That company was Pear Therapeutics. I had the fortunate opportunity to become Pear’s first commercial employee in early 2016 and was responsible for developing the early go to market strategy and commercial plan for what would become the first two FDA cleared prescription digital therapeutics to treat substance use disorder and opioid use disorder.
When hiring for people on your team, what are some qualities and skills you look for that aren't on the job description?
Noom has been on a hiring tear. Our interview process is rigorous, having gone through the process myself about a year ago…I can attest first hand that our team is committed to hiring the very best talent to help Noom grow and to fit into our unique culture. Noom prides itself on a few core principles that flow through to our hiring practices. We ask that all new employees: 1) Think like an owner, 2) Treat each other like family & act as a high performing team, 3) Optimize for fast learning, 4) operate with radical transparency, 5) take your job seriously, but not too seriously and 6) do not lose sight of the positive.
What specific skills, projects, or experiences do you tend to look upon particularly favorably when you see a candidate with them?
We seek candidates with diverse experiences and backgrounds. We trend toward the entrepreneurial minded candidate, we have a mix of skills, talents and experiences that make up our Noomily (Noom Family). There are not specific skills or project experiences that we look favorably on as much as we seek out energetic, passionate, focused, action-driven & intelligent teammates with the ability to work as team to bring our corporate mission to reality.
Other than Noom, what are a couple of other digital health companies that you think are doing really interesting things?
Having been in the digital space since its early days, I admire all the groups that have helped our industry to gain traction. I am closely following the work of many of the industry leaders including: Pear Therapeutics, Akili Interactive, Cognoa, MedRhythms, Applied VR, Palo Alto Health Sciences, The Learning Corporation, Elly Healthy, Kaia Health, Nightware, amongst many others. There are so many groups doing amazing work, it is tough to single any out. I have become close with the leaders of many of the previously mentioned groups and we are all working together to bring digital health products/services to patients in need.
What's a trend in digital health that you think will accelerate because of the COVID-19 pandemic?
I feel strongly that the adoption of digital health will quickly accelerate as a result of Covid-19. Now, more than ever, there is a need to create access to healthcare products/services for those in need. It is my strong hope that CMS and private insurers will take an even closer look and work towards developing coverage policies that will allow for these much needed therapies to be reimbursed. It is also my hope that the insurers can assist healthcare providers, from a financial perspective, to allow for adjusted work flow in order to incorporate new technology into their treatment patterns. I am also hopeful that newer digital health/medicine/therapeutic product/services will be made available to address the increase in mental health issues that will grow through and be present post-Covid-19.
