Nautilus Labs
Finance Manager
Why this is a great job
Even if you don’t have a soft spot for shipping the same way I do, you probably know that it’s a massive industry. Get exposure to the executive team and dealing with a board at a rapidly growing startup by signing up for a voyage with the Nautilus team.
The nitty gritty
About Nautilus:
Nautilus Labs is a technology company focused on advancing the efficiency of maritime commerce. We drive transformation and sustainability in the shipping industry.
Nautilus enables shipping companies to easily optimize their business for speed and consumption through a cloud-based analytics platform that provides unified fleet intelligence.
Nautilus’s enterprise SaaS platform transforms the way performance data is used throughout shipping companies, helping to maximize fleet ROI. Traditional maritime analytics rely on empirical models, siloed data, and limited historical context to support one-off actions. Our software provides a 360° view of an organization’s entire fleet and builds the data foundation for predictive decision-making and business optimization.
About you:
As Finance Manager, and our first hire in the function, you will be responsible for all major components of the company’s financial operations. You've had one or more formative experiences leading finance operations effort for a high-growth company, working cross functionally with sales operations, product development, and technology teams on a frequent basis. You will work closely with the executive team and be responsible for company-wide revenue reporting to Nautilus’ Board of Directors and Senior Management. You're a builder by nature, and have a strong desire to create something much larger than yourself and are willing to get your hands dirty and work tirelessly to do so.
You see yourself as a collaborative business partner, using your expertise to enable the entire organization to achieve its goals rapidly, but responsibly. You'll work cross-functionally with the broader team to design and implement systems and processes.
You recognize that, as a fast-growing early-stage startup, we need well-rounded team players who can easily navigate between the strategic and the tactical, and that excites you.
Outcomes for the Role:
Strategic Reporting: Manage and update company operating model and own all board reporting around company targets and financial projections.
Process & Tools Implementation: Implement internal accounting processes to increase operational efficiency and financial statement accuracy. Manage migration from Quickbooks to next-stage ERP system and implement additional financial tools.
FP&A and Budgeting: Act as a strategic partner to department leaders by providing visibility into their spending and helping create operational budgets. Manage the accrual process to maintain accurate financial reporting and cash planning, and support annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting.
Treasury: Oversee and manage banking relationships, AP & AR, optimize payment processes, and manage the flow of funds with our insurance partners. Organizational Development: Develop an effective accounting team structure, recruiting and managing top talent.
Corporate Accounting: Liaise with our external accounting office and direct all day-to-day financial accounting activities, including a timely and accurate month-end-close process, internal financial reporting for executives and department leaders, and reconciling various financial and accounting systems.
Proficiencies:
At least 4 years' experience in Corporate Accounting. Experience in a high-growth tech company highly preferred.
CPA with deep experience in technical accounting policies. Thorough understanding of US GAAP (IFRS understanding may be helpful), ability to develop and implement financial systems and controls to enable financial audits, and ability to lead technical discussions with a partner at a Big 4 firm.
Off-the-charts analytical thinking ability.
Scrappy self-starter who believes “it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission.”
Recognition of the importance of fun, humor and humility in creating a superlative working environment
Our core values:
Get ready to join a group of diverse, smart, talented, and driven individuals. We are looking for people who are motivated by environmentalism and a future where shipping is sustainable and safe. A team member joining Nautilus is...
We’re THOUGHTFUL, with a bias towards action.
We’re an INCLUSIVE crew, and we are not passengers along for the ride.
We’re DIRECT and we ask the tough questions.
We EMPATHIZE with humanity.
