About Ambrook
We started Ambrook with a mission to help farmers become more profitable and more sustainable. There is a virtuous cycle between profitability and sustainability in many natural resource industries, especially agriculture. Better soil health, water conservation, and climate resilience often leads to lower costs, increased yields, and price premiums for crops or livestock in the market. To reduce the upfront cost and knowledge barriers to implementing these practices, we are tackling an overlooked part of the operation: back office paperwork and financials. There’s tremendous room for improvement on existing software and time-consuming paperwork shuffling in the farm back office. Over time, we’ll expand beyond agriculture to drive sustainable practices in other natural resource industries: fisheries, forestry, water, energy, mining, and more.

The opportunity
Ambrook is hiring a Chief Of Staff to join our team as we bring our bookkeeping product to market and expand our financial tools and services. You will be pivotal in the success of core milestones by resourcefully unblocking unprecedented challenges and increasing the efficiency of our team. You’ll also kickstart special projects, often being the first person on the team to spec out new business and product opportunities using your toolkit of cross-functional abilities. You are not an EA. Day-to-day, you’ll be the right-hand person and thought partner to our CEO, Mackenzie Burnett, enabling her to focus on strategy and helping her stay organized in leading the team.
Ambrook is at the intersection of fintech, agriculture, and climate—three sectors that are rarely seen together in startups. As such, you’ll need to bring perspectives and skillsets from diverse industries and audiences to be the glue on the team, always one step ahead to fill gaps between our current capabilities and our mission-driven ambitions.

Own: CEO enablement, special projects, G&A management
Teach: Operational efficiency, zero-to-one project management
Learn: Ins and outs of building an agrifinance and climate tech company, including the nitty gritty of agricultural bookkeeping, the larger farm finance ecosystem, and natural resource management / ESG tie-ins.
Improve: Day-to-day processes, speed of learning about new markets and problems

Get to know our CEO, Mackenzie, and join her meetings and asynchronous processes, both internal and external.
Learn how to use internal tools.
Familiarize yourself with Ambrook’s product roadmap and the research that influenced it, including notes and recordings from various customer touchpoints.
Embed yourself deeply in understanding the state of farm finance, building a strong intuition about customer needs and audience segmentation.
Ramp up on strategically-important topics as needed that have no designated owners yet, and figure out what jobs-to-be-done warrant hiring with CEO.
Draft and review any external communications for substance and writing quality.
Directly oversee and partner with CEO’s executive assistant to ensure personal and professional priorities are aligned.
Prepare materials for the team and investors.
Within 3 months you'll...
Spec cross-functional requirements for upcoming special projects (think financial services, distribution, and partnerships) with Product, Operations, and GTM teams.
Complete financial modeling for products coming down the pipeline upwards of 6-12 months out.
Own G&A functions including people operations, finance, and accounting, and record playbooks that enable us to onboard new hires to these roles in the future.
Build relationships with third-party service providers, including tax accounting and legal firms supporting our financing and operating functions.
