Upper90 is a hybrid fund that provides founder-friendly credit and equity to top disruptors in e-commerce, enterprise and fintech. The fund is backed by 300 business builders with $450M in AUM and over $1Bn in total originations since being started in 2018 by executives from Seamless-GrubHub, Goldman Sachs and Solus. We leverage new data sources to invest in startups with predictable revenue models like Thrasio, Clearbanc, Crusoe Energy, and Octane Lending, who secured their first credit facilities from Upper90.
Position Overview
Upper90 has an opportunity to create a new category in the startup investing ecosystem. Candidates for this position should have a minimum of 5 years of experience and a goal of running a fund or starting a fintech business in the future. This hire will drive origination strategy working closely with VCs and our LP base of entrepreneurs. Having a strong analytical mindset is important to help manage investments from beginning to end with our deal execution team.
Key Responsibilities
Network with VC and technology startup ecosystem to educate on new capital options
Do industry research in core themes to move to an outbound vs inbound sourcing model
Screen / prioritize deal funnel to manage execution process and make partner investment committee more productive
Work closely with the deal execution team to complete diligence and manage relationships with portfolio companies to find ways to add value beyond capital alone
Identify conferences and industry events to increase brand awareness with founders
Help create new products based on competition and programs (i.e. venture partners)
Qualifications
Always finding ways to add value and build relationships
Interest in technology trends and investing in startups
Illuminating insights from complex data - making information easy to understand
Ability to work effectively across an organization to drive business initiatives
An outstanding ability to communicate
Experience managing others but able to work independently
True team player with a “no task is too small” mindset
Highly organized and comfortable managing multiple work streams at once
Openness to an environment of active developmental feedback from peers
Excellence using MS Excel, PowerPoint, and tools like Asana, Affinity, and Bloomberg
