Care/of
Manager, Direct-to-Consumer Business
Why this is a great job
There really aren’t that many opportunities like this out there - you’ll essentially be a deputy GM of a large and growing business, which should set you up nicely to run a company or a P&L on an accelerated timeline. The company is backed by strong investors and is poised for even more growth.
The nitty gritty
Company website: www.takecareof.com
Location: NYC
Who you’d be working with: Brittany Shaw, GM of DTC
Let’s get to know each other
At Care/of, we help people remove obstacles to living a healthy life by delivering personalized, science-backed vitamins and protein straight to their door in convenient daily packs. As a fast-growing, venture-backed wellness startup, our technology makes it easy (and even fun) for people to get a custom vitamin and protein recommendation based on their diet and health goals — goodbye, guesswork. We aim to help people feel empowered to make the right choices for their health by being transparent about the research behind our recommendations and thoughtful about the quality of our products.
Care/of launched in 2016 and is headquartered in New York City. To date, Care/of has raised over $42M from top investors including Goldman Sachs Investment Partners, Goodwater Capital, Tusk Ventures, RRE Capital, and Juxtapose.
What you’ll do:
As the right hand to our General Manager of Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), you will partner closely with the GM to drive our core P&L. You will help understand and communicate business performance, drive alignment on priorities, and collaborate with our teams in executing against strategic plans. To date, Care/of’s DTC business has been our sole focus. As our business expands, we are building a cross-functional business unit team focused on DTC. You will have an early, central role on this team, collaborating with all functions across the organization and involved in every aspect of the business - from our marketing budget to our physical and digital product pipelines to our Brooklyn fulfillment center. This is the right role for a strong problem solver who wants to get hands-on experience and a 360 view of how we run our business.
Dig into specific business issues to diagnose root causes and partner with our GM and teams to identify and implement solutions
Partner with our analytics team to ensure proper reporting and visibility into key business metrics
Build business cases to support potential investments and new strategic initiatives
Manage our DTC business reviews (both internal and board-level) and strategic planning process
Run point on special projects; ensure timelines are met on big cross-functional strategic initiatives
Prepare for and help lead effective meetings, including defining agendas, creating any materials, facilitating, capturing minutes and action items, and ensuring follow-up
Who you are:
The ideal candidate is analytical, communicative, resourceful, and organized. You have 4+ years of strong problem-solving experience (e.g., management consulting, corporate strategy, private equity, or similar.)
Highly quantitative with demonstrated ability conducting complex data analysis to build actionable insights (preferably through SQL; Excel proficiency a must)
Sound business judgment - you understand key P&L drivers and business metrics
Effective communicator who leads with EQ - you have proven experience influencing without authority and can work effectively with all levels within an organization
Strong project manager - you are detail-oriented and bring structure to ambiguity; you have experience creating and running scalable processes and can manage multiple projects at once
Entrepreneurial, strategic thinker - you are proactive and motivated to solve tough problems with a customer-centric lens; you develop frameworks to support strategic decisions and are able to zoom in and out from high-level strategy to detailed execution
Extra Carrots:
Experience in an “operating role” outside of pure strategy/analytics
Experience working in or with high-growth start-ups
Experience in e-commerce or a digitally-native brand/direct-to-consumer business
Happy Tuesday - don’t forget to apply! (instructions near the top of the email)
